In case you missed it, (now former) Indiana University Wide Receiver Kiante Enis was arrested and charged with two counts of Felony Child Molestation. This isn’t what you may imagine when you think of child molestation – he wasn’t driving around in a van handing out candy to lure kids in – but the details are still disturbing. Enis had a relationship with a 13-year-old girl (or younger), and admitted to police that they had sex on at least two occasions. He said it was consensual, but according to the law she isn’t old enough to consent, and Enis is 19, which means he committed a felony that – absent any evidence that the girl showed him a fake ID or something – may land him in jail for up to 19 years.
So what does this have to do with Karl Malone? Just that he did THE EXACT SAME THING
as a college student at Louisiana Tech, except that he got the girl pregnant and then abandoned her (and the child) once she gave birth. That child turned out to be one-time NFL player Demetress Bell
, and when he was born his mother was 13 and Karl Malone was a 20-year-old college sophomore. Which means his mother was either barely 13, or still 12, when she was impregnated by Malone. If Enis is guilty of felony child molestation, it stands to reason that Malone is too. Not that it will ever be prosecuted, but facts are facts, and unlike in the legal system, in my book there is no statute of limitations on being a scumbag sexual predator.
Malone also never gave Bell the time of day or helped him out in any way. This isn’t rumor or innuendo: these are facts that have been public
for years, but have been swept under the rug for the most part. Whether that is because people simply don’t care, or because it goes against the image people have of Karl Malone in their head, is impossible to say. Jemele Hill of ESPN is one of the few writers to publicly address it.
It also isn’t the only creepy behavior Malone has demonstrated in regards to younger women: remember when he told Kobe’s wife
that he “was hunting little Mexican girls” after she inquired about why he was wearing Cowboy boots? I’m guessing Kobe and Vanessa Bryant do.
This may or may not change your opinion about Karl Malone. But now you know the truth.
