In this episode of the Going Deep podcast, Matt Keller spoke with ex-NBA player John Amaechi about the LeBron graffiti incident, Adam Jones, Colin Kaepernick, and racism in sports generally. After retiring from the NBA in 2003, Amaechi came out as a gay man in 2007 and since then has been an ambassador for basketball, public speaker, insightful commentator, and activist. He’s also a licensed psychologist who runs Amaechi Performance and works with everyone from at-risk kids to CEOs.
Amaechi has a lot of first-hand experience dealing with the intersection of race, culture, and sports, and has also done a lot of speaking about the issue. His unique perspective made for a fascinating interview.
