Shut down the wrong corner…

Former Celtics big man Glen Davis once again proved why he deserves his long-standing “Big Baby” moniker, emerging from the fringes of irrelevancy to throw shade on his former coach Doc Rivers. While speaking on Chris Broussard’s podcast, Baby said Rivers was “lucky as hell” to win a championship with the 2008 Celtics and that he’s “just not feeling” that Rivers is one of the best coaches ever. We haven’t seen someone this upset with their former Doc since an unnamed member of our staff’s pediatrician told him he was gonna be 6’2 and he apexed at a distinctly average 5’10. Some of Davis’ comments certainly hold some truth, but it’s hard to view this as anything other than a classless attempt to spend a little time back in the spotlight. Baby needs his pacifier…

NBA

  • Up one with time expiring, Marcus Smart was called for a foul on a play where he made less contact with Jimmy Butler than male friends who live in different cities. J-But went on to sink both free throws and Chicago ended Boston’s four-game winning streak with a tainted 104-103 victory. Can’t happen…
  • Otto Porter Jr. scored 25 and the Wizards downed the Pacers 111-98. In case you blinked or have been preoccupied with life’s rigors recently, Washington is currently the three-seed in the East…
  • Shane Battier, the man known for his fundamentally sound play and having actual river deltas on his head, is returning to the Miami Heat to head up their newly formed analytics department…

MLB

  • Retired Cy Young winner Barry Zito, whose devastating curveball used to give hitters fits while his awful contract used to give Giants fans ulcers has begun finding success in his second career as a musician, landing at number 15 on the Americana/Folk Billboard charts with his EP “No Secrets“…

SOCCER

  • Man, myth, legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored a hat trick in Man United’s 3-0 Europa League win over St. Etienne…
  • Tottenham pulled a Tottenham and shat the proverbial bed, losing 1-0 to KAA Gent. When you’re losing to teams that sound like Belgian brokerage firms you know it’s not going well…
  • Balls were kicked into nets, injuries were faked, and yellow cards were dealt like Community Chest cards in Monopoly. Here are the results of those happenings

  • Stud-muffin: noun : a big ole muffin of stud. Sidney Crosby had two assists and the game-winning goal in the Penguins’ 4-3 overtime win against the Jets to exceed 1,000 points for his career, what a stud-muffin…
  • Ducks forward Antoine Vermette has been suspended ten games for slashing an official in anger on Tuesday. Well duh it was in anger, what else would he have whacked him with his stick for? An over-emphatic high-five? Killing a bee? Ugh, we loathe ourselves…
  • You need scores? Yeah? How many? We got ’em all. You’re not a cop right?…

MR. IMPOSSIBLE AND EYES CLOSED FREE THROWS

This year marks the 25th anniversary of MJ’s eyes closed free throw against young Mutombo and the Nuggets, and filmmaker Matt Liston used the opportunity to raise awareness for Chicago Lighthouse, an incredible organization created to help the visually impaired. Liston aka “Mr. Impossible” is on a mission to get Bulls star Jimmy Butler to shoot one with his eyes closed, but is also urging ballers from around the country to shoot one blind and send in the footage. If you’re playing rec league, high school, college ball, wherever, take a foul shot with your eyelids shut this weekend and tag #MrImpossible or #ChicagoLighthouse on the ol’ social media to help raise awareness for a great cause…
