Trade Deadline Recap: Ajayi and Benjamin Getting New Jerseys

SAN FRANCISCO SLIM JIM

The Patriots could have dealt Jimmy Garoppolo before the season for a first-round pick, but they held onto the handsome gunslinger with the high cheekbones, which made their decision to flip their highly sought after backup to the winless 49ers for a second-rounder a bit of a head-scratcher. Trading Jimmy G makes sense for New England because, you know, back-up quarterbacks don’t play, but it’s surprising they didn’t acquire any of San Francisco’s veteran talent (everyone on the Niners is on the block right now) in addition to the pick. Great trade for the Niners who get a quarterback with massive potential, great trade for Garoppolo who gets to work with a creative offensive-minded coach in Kyle Shanahan, and a questionable trade for the Pats who probably could have gotten more…

DUANE READ THIS: YOU’VE BEEN TRADED

The Seahawks’ cobbled-together offensive line has been more porous than ancient sandstone this season, and the addition of All-Pro Texans left tackle Duane Brown should help. In addition to cornerback Jeremy Lane, Seattle gave up a second and fifth round draft pick to seal the deal…

STACKING CHEDDAR: TYROD GETS A BENJAMIN

The Bills are 5-2 despite tight end Charles Clay (who’s been injured since October 8th) leading the team with 258 receiving yards, so the acquisition of Kelvin Benjamin from the Panthers for two draft picks makes a whole lotta sense. The 6’5 Benjamin has lost some of his explosiveness, but he’s still a match-up problem and bonafide No. 1 receiver for a team relying on the likes of Andre Holmes and Deonte Thompson…

EAGLES ACQUIRE CORPSE OF JAY AJAYI

Philadelphia thinks they can work with Ajayi and get him back to being a top running back, but we’re highly skeptical. Jay’s knee has been bothering him all season, and if you watch him run, he’s clearly a tick slower to the hole than he was in 2016 (no worries, Jay…I am too). It’s a low-risk deal for the Eagles, but we don’t see Ajayi making much of a difference down the stretch…
